Swan Watch, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Thursday, 28th June, 2018.

10:40-ish.
No photo 'cos there are no swans of any size or age in the park at the mo'.
That asks more questions than provides answers.
Hopefully, they'll be here when I come back through here later on.
11:30-ish.
Phew. Here they come.
They've been up the brook towards Perdiswell.
Perhaps they had a fitness session at the leisure centre booked.
When did it last rain?
The brook is so shallow now that only the cygnet can swim in it.
The parents simply stroll along it at a slow and steady pace.
26 days old today, me.
Busy bee.

Wednesday 27 June 2018

Swan Watch (usual place) & The Knapp & Paper Mill Nature Reserve, Worcs: Wednesday, 27th June, 2018.

9:10-ish.
Can you spot the cygnet (it's top-centre-ish)?
It's now almost duck-sized and the parents are no longer so vigilant.
Not sure that's a good thing.
10:30-ish.
The Reserve's Big Meadow is big today.
It's full of flying half-inch-biting-barsts an' all.
Leigh Brook.
Roger at Paper Mill Cottage.
He's taken his hat off.
He could be burnt to death!
Deep in the cool of the woods at the north end of the reserve.
Two olde-fellas posing for one of those modern photos.
Looking up the farmland to the east of the reserve……..
……and a view of the same land as we come back down.
12:30-ish.
Back in Gheluvelt Park and the swans are closer together now.
All our fingers remain crossed.

Tuesday 26 June 2018

Swan Watch, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Tuesday, 26th June, 2018.

9:45-ish.
On the water and safe and well.
10:45-ish.
My Mum and Dad aren't exactly keeping their eyes on me at the minute.
The cygnet is now 24 days old.

Monday 25 June 2018

Swan Watch, Gheluvelt park, Worcester: Monday, 25th June, 2018.

11:45-ish.
Swan family unit head towards Swan Bridge.
We don't have any swan food today.
Who's gonna break this news to them?
2:40-ish.
Been to town and got some swan food on the way back.
The cygnet is on the pond and vulnerable so Vicky
is trying to tempt it back on to the shore with food.
Back with Mum and Dad once more.
23 days old.
We've got everything crossed for the cygnet.

Sunday 24 June 2018

Swan Watch & finding no shade, Gheluvelt Park and beyond, Worcester: Sunday, 24th June, 2018.

3:30-ish.
With there being even more folk in the park than yesterday
the swans have moved up the Brook again.
We're not sure, but  is the cygnet starting to look a touch bigger today?
That's the last of this bag of swan food.
And the band played on.
Shade is at a premium along the river.
Even the smallest area of shade is appreciated.

Saturday 23 June 2018

Swan Watch, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Saturday, 23rd June, 2018.

11:30-ish.
The park keepers are cutting the grass by the pond this morning
so the swans have moved upstream along the brook.
They've attracted a crowd of admirers from the play area.
Mum and Dad scoff our swan food.
The cygnet doesn't.
That's it. Take my photo.
I'm 21 days old today.
Keep yer fingers crossed for me.
Ladybird.
No idea how many days old this one is.

Friday 22 June 2018

Swan Watch in Gheluvelt Park and opposite The Cathedral, Worcester: Friday, 22nd June, 2018.

10:45-ish.
Mum, cygnet, and Dad alive and well in the park.
Always a relief.
View of the swan family from Swan Bridge.
Note Dad balancing the cygnet on his forehead.
Clever that.
The neck and body are growing.
The wings remain…erm…on the small side.
11:55-ish.
Mother and two cygnets on the river bank opposite The Cathedral.
Worcester Cathedral.
Narrow boat heading south.
Failed selfie with Cathedral Mk I.
Failed selfie with Cathedral Mk II.
Oh well. Let's go into town and have a cuppa tea.
12:45-ish.
Back in Gheluvelt Park for a final check on the swans
before heading home for lunch.

Vicky doling out the swan food.
10:45-ish.
Halfway up The Malverns and pausing to take in the view to the west.
11:15-ish.
Vicky, Howard, and Roger at the Worcestershire Beacon,
the highest point along The Malvern Hills.
Roger and Dave.
Two olde scrotes at the top of The Malverns.
11:45-ish.
Heading south and back down to base camp.
Always nice to interact with another hill walker.

Wednesday 20 June 2018

Swan Watch, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Wednesday, 20th June, 2018.

12:00-ish.
Relieved again (no doubt Dad is as well).
The cygnet is still alive and well.
Dad about to tell Vicky off for feeding swan food to the ducks.
Dad and Mum stand guard.
It's a full time job.

Tuesday 19 June 2018

Swan Watch, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Tuesday, 19th June, 2018.

11:10-ish.
Always a relief to find the little-fella (is it a fella?) alive and well.
Yet to ripen berries of some sort.
12:15-ish.
We've got a tennis ball and we're not giving it back.
Crestfallen sheep dog just out of shot.
