Family reunited, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Monday, 29th June, 2020.

Mother and six cygnets on The Brook…..
…..and the father has deigned to join them
(how long will that last?).
Evening meal:
Tuna linguini.

Monday, 29 June 2020

No swans today, Worcester: Sunday, 28th June, 2020.

Brunch:
Scrambled egg, mushrooms, onions and
baked beans on Granary toast.
The ducks are up the far end of the jetty.
A quick shake of the food container soon sorts that out.
The family appears to have gained a new member.
Unless we have been miscounting all these weeks.
Ah, the wicked temptations of a temptress with some hazelnuts.
Mmmmmm, yes, scrummylicious.
Evening meal:
Baked chicken slices, new potatoes, and vegetables.
Dessert:
Pineapple.

Sunday, 28 June 2020

A cooler walk today, Worcester: Saturday, 27th June, 2020.

The ducks are on the other side of the river.
Time to give the food box a rattle and shake.
Yep, that'll do it.
The swan family is also on the river today.
Six cygnets have survived so far.
Evening meal:
Oven baked cod and chips, with peas, mushrooms,
tomato, and salad.
Ice cream for afters.

Friday, 26 June 2020

No swans but many ducks today, Gheluvelt Park: Friday, 26th June, 2020.

Ducks continue to thrive on the river.
Shade is most welcome in this heat.
Chance to cool down a touch before plodding on.
Feeding the five thousand.
No swans, apart from the Dad, in the park today.
More lovely shade.
Vicky's lunch:
Cheese, apple, nuts and celery.
(David's cheese and onion spread sammidges, with
salad and tomato, just out of shot).
Evening meal:
Fish (salmon for Vicky, mackerel and salmon for David),
new potatoes, salad, and coleslaw.
Dessert:
Fresh fruit, nuts and seeds, and yoghurt.

Thursday, 25 June 2020

Local families doing well, Worcester: Thursday, 25th June, 2020.

Duck family on the river are all present and correct.
Mother swan and the six cygnets are back on
The Brook today (two of the cygnets are just
around the bend & Dad's on the pond).
Sitting in the shade eating fresh grass is my
preference if it's all the same to you.
It's been a slow walk, not a long one, today.
Nice to sit in some shade before venturing out
into the sunshine (31c) once again.
Evening meal:
Fish (mackerel for David, salmon for Vicky) with new
potatoes, salad and coleslaw.
Dessert:
Pineapple.

Locals, Worcester: Wednesday, 24th June, 2020.

A walk would be nothing without……
….some interaction with the locals.
Evening meal:
Ploughman's Lunch.
Dessert:
Pineapple.

Big Shop and other stuff, Droitwich, Gheluvelt Park and Blackpole, Worcester: Tuesday, 23rd June, 2020.

Rotten journey to Droitwich today.
Loads of traffic and temporary traffic lights etc.
If this is 'the new normal' they can stuff it.
But, thankfully, no queue here.
Mask on, trolley wiped down, and ready for battle.
Swan family on the Droitwich Arm of The Worcester
and Birmingham Canal.
Canal boat (with dog) passing thru' the lock.
Feeding the ducks in Gheluvelt Park.
Always gratefully and vocally received.
Mother and cygnets are alive and well and
are on the brook today.
However, Father is on the pond (he's had enough and
he's disowned his children) and there's only six cygnets.
So, what has happened to the seventh one?
Evening meal:
Beef salad with new potatoes.
Evening shopping?
Stuff this 'new normal' malarky.

Monday, 22 June 2020

Swan mystery continues, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Monday, 22nd June, 2020.

There are three cygnets on the river.
At least the mother is with them today.
Swans have wonderful hearing.
From 30 yards they can hear Vicky's voice and
the shake of a container full of swan pellets.
There's enough pellets to feed the swans as well as the young
family of ducks who have done well to survive too.
Following on from yesterday's swan saga just
one of the un-tagged swans is in the park today.
Hopefully, this means that both escaped from within
the undergrowth yesterday and the other one is on the brook.
Of course, it is hungry and is grateful for the
remaining pellets (not many).
Lunch:
Egg mayonaise sandwiches (these are too fancy
to be called sammidges 'cos they've got cucumber
in 'em) with tomatoes and crisps.
Evening meal:
Turkey, wholegrain rice and ratatouille.
Dessert:
Fresh fruit (with yoghurt and flaked almonds for David).

Sunday, 21 June 2020

Another swan saga, Gheluvelt Park, Worcester: Sunday, 21st June, 2020.

Breakfast:
David's (left): Muesli, fruit, nuts, skimmed milk.
and Vicky's: fruit, yoghurt and seeds.
Brunch (David's):
Turkey rasher, mushrooms, tomatoes subs with English Mustard.
Brunch (Vicky's):
as above, but without the mustard.
Three small swans on the river with no parents in sight?
Yes, it's the three independent cygnets
swimming about on their own…..
……and they're hungry of course.
The father has disowned them yet again.
So far, so ordinary.
Now things are getting interesting.
There are two un-ringed swans in the park
that we have never seen before.
They don't seem to want to be here either.
They soon decide to head for the brook.
The walk past the tennis courts and decide to walk
through the thick vegetation on the left to get down
the bank to the brook.
But they get stuck in the undergrowth and can't get out.
Vicky 'phones the swan rescue people.
They are busy rescuing other swans elsewhere.
It's getting late in the day and we have to get home for dinner
so we shall have to come back tomorrow to see if the are
around or not.
Blimey.
Some sort of moth?
Fly and a ladybird on a dandelion.
Evening meal:
Turkey parcels with roasted Mediterranean vegetables.
Dessert:
Apple and blackberries with custard and flaked almonds.
