Morning walk:
Just the one cygnet to be seen.
Hopefully, the others are under Mum's wings.
Three cygnets.
Perhaps the other two are under Mum's other wing.
Mum is sitting still this morning with both wings spread out.
That's a good sign but when she shifted position
there were no cygnets under her left wing.
We can't help but notice that
the grass is covered in tiny swan feathers.
Seagulls are swooping around overhead.
Oh the terrible trepidation.
Up periscope.
Afternoon walk:
Mum stands up and takes a stretch.
One cygnet is nearby, the other is heading for the water,
and the remaining unhatched eggs are no longer on the nest.
Somebody has placed two rat traps nearby.
So where is Dad and the other three cygnets?
The trepidation is ramping up.
Mum sets off along the pond towards the brook with cygnets in tow.
The other three cygnets are up the brook
and under the bridge with Dad.
Phew.
Too much trepidation!
A spectator sport for all ages.
Five little cygnets all in a row.
Taking a tour of the pond's perimeter.
Not swan watching.
River watching.
No kingfishers today. Boo!
