Worcester Foregate Street, 11:15am, waiting for the 11:24am train
which is going to be (oh joy) 7 minutes late.
It's coming from Hereford and is all of three carriages long.
Let's hope we can get a seat.
We get seats facing rearwards and arrive in New Street pretty much on time at 12:15-ish.
This is not a patch on the other 'Grand Central' we have visited but at least it is a bit of an improvement on what was here before.
Roof above the concourse.
A couple of floors higher up and Vicky has her eyes on John Lewis where we head straight for the cafe and have sammidges and tea.
Thus fortified it's time to wander around the shop itself -
the biggest John Lewis outside London, evidently.
John Lewis interior jaunty-angle jobbie.
Reflections in John Lewis.
Shopping finished now and who's that entering stage right?
I know him from somewhere.
Outside now and Station Street has been transformed.
John Lewis exterior and Birmingham cityscape.
Back inside and time for refreshments before catching the train back.
One tea, one hot chocolate, and a pastry, please.
Very thick hot chocolate indeed!
The train is on time shock.
Vicky with the 2:50pm to Worcester.
It doesn't leave for another 20 minutes yet but it is already almost full.
Amazingly this train has just two carriages.
We grab two seats whilst we can.
By the time it leaves there are as many folk standing as sitting.
After a rotten journey on an overcrowded stifling-hot train with no ventilation (just like an overground Underground journey) we get one last cuppa tea at The Boston Tea Party and then take a slow walk home along the river.
It's lovely to be back in the peace and tranquility of Worcester.
And to think we used to love Birmingham.
It must be an age thing.
Nearly home now.
Looking forward to a cuppa tea and a rest before dinner.
