HSCC, Silverstone, Saturday 22nd October, 2011.

Yes, we know we said that our last visit to Siverstone would be the final one of the year but we lied. Well, with a reasonable weather forecast and the chance to see our favourite single-seaters of all-time (the F5000's in case you were wonderin') for a third year running, you wouldn't have wanted us to do anything else, would you? This is a 1975 F5000 Lola T332, with Steven Chaplin at the wheel, trundling down pit lane. Note the expression on the face of the chap in the background. Says it all, really.
Size really does matter. Just ask Gregory Thornton about his 1964 4,727cc Ford Falcon if you don't believe us. His is at least 73 metres long. At least.
So, just what is the definition of a crisis? Is it the fact that yer Porsche isn't running all that well and you've only qualified in the midfield or is it the fact that yer gas cylinder has run out and the pan of sausages you are cooking for your lunch is only half-cooked? You decide.
Yay! David is very happy following a successful trip to Silverstone's, ahem, facilities.
A fine battle ensued for the victory spoils in the Guards Trophy race for GT and Sports Racing cars. The Ginetta got in front of the Chevrons by the end.
The spirit of Jim Clark lives on. Mark Jones won the Historic Touring Car race and constantly aimed his 1963 Ford Lotus Cortina at the bollard-thingy on the inside of Brooklands on every lap. He finally scooped it up on the penultimate lap. Getting the thing onto two wheels was obviously the key.
Silverstone can be a cold and desolate place at the best of times and today is no exception. But, crucially, it's not as cold and desolate as when we were here a fortnight ago. Now that was cold and desolate. It's positively balmy in comparison today.
Let's finish off with a shot of an example of the much-desired Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 Auto Equip (in black and with the same clocks as an Evo, lest we forget). But what's this? Some scrote has parked a cowing' old historic MG sports car in the way. Git!
