Silverstone Moto GP, Saturday 11th June, 2011.

1) Each year we come to the GP we ask ourselves 'will this be the last time we see Loris? He was supposed to retire at the end of last season yet here he still is. Will we see him next year?
2) Last time we saw Cal Crutchlow at Silverstone he was totally dominant in WSBK. This morning he one of the quickest in Moto GP Free Practice. What can possibly go wrong? Let's just say the stalls selling No 35 T shirts and flags will have a lot of unsold stock left when they go home and leave it at that.

3) You have to put a lot of leg work in at Silverstone to get the most out of it. We've left the new Startline Grandstand, walked into the middle and had some brunch at the Cafe in the old Paddock, chatted with some of the riders in the Triumph support race, walked under the tunnel at Copse and made our way to the Becketts Complex to watch the 125's. Taken about 90 mins at a nice-stroll. This is Jonas Folger on his Aprilia at Chapel in case you were wondering.

4) We're just past Stowe now. They said the Wing was finished but they lied. Look, they've added a strip of red trim to the roof since last week. They can't fool us (oh no).

5) Now we're at Club Corner and we've stumbled upon three stewards, five Smurfs, and a bloke with a mohican (amongst others). Where do they think they are, cowin' Glastonbury?

6) Yay! Scott Redding doing his best to make up for Cal's demise with a stirling second place in Moto 2 Qualifying. Certainly stirs the olde cockles.

7) Bradley Smith spent most of Qualifying in the pits trying to get his bike to go faster than he can run. He only managed two laps and finished up way down the grid. Not good. Still, they say it will rain tomorrow, so you never know, he might improve a bit.

8) Vicky and Howard are overwhelmed by the tension at the start of the Red Bull Rookies Cup race.

9) Red Bull Rookies Cup rider Aaron Espana (he's from Spain, spookily) is in the process of throwing his toys out of the pram after finding out that kerbs can be a tad slippy when wet. He's young and he'll learn. He did get a nice round of applause for his efforts.

We'll just watch the start of the Triumph race then nip off home 'cos we're not as young as we were and are a bit tired (well, we have been here seven and a half hours and walked three miles at least). Besides we have to get up early tomorrow for our monthly stint at the Cats Protection.
